This Privacy Policy describes how SquadChatter ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the SquadChatter mobile application ("the App").
Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect:
- Email address — used for authentication, password recovery, and account-related notifications
- Display name — shown to other users in channels and organizations you join
- Profile avatar (optional) — uploaded image stored on our servers
Usage Data
We collect minimal usage data to operate the service:
- Channel membership and activity timestamps (used to show online/offline status)
- Organization membership and role assignments
- Device type and OS version (for crash diagnostics)
Voice Data
- Voice audio is transmitted in real-time via WebRTC infrastructure and is not recorded or stored on our servers
- Voice data is ephemeral — it exists only during active push-to-talk transmission
- We do not perform speech recognition, transcription, or analysis on voice data
Information We Do Not Collect
- We do not collect location data
- We do not collect contacts or address book data
- We do not sell your data to third parties
- We do not use your data for advertising
How We Use Your Information
- To provide and maintain the App's functionality (channels, voice, organizations)
- To authenticate your identity and secure your account
- To display your profile to other members of channels and organizations you join
- To send account-related communications (password reset, security alerts)
- To diagnose crashes and improve app stability
Data Storage & Security
- Account credentials (access and refresh tokens) are stored in the device Keychain, not in plain text
- Server communication uses HTTPS/TLS encryption
- Passwords are hashed server-side using bcrypt — we cannot read your password
- Database access is restricted to authorized server processes only

We use Google Analytics 4 on the squadchatter.com website only to understand aggregate traffic patterns (e.g., which pages visitors read, what devices they use). The mobile app itself does not embed Google Analytics, advertising SDKs, or social media tracking pixels.
Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser. You can opt out site-wide by installing the Google Analytics Opt-Out Browser Add-on, or by enabling Do Not Track / blocking third-party cookies in your browser settings.
Data Retention
- Your data is retained for as long as your account is active
- When you delete your account, all associated data (profile, memberships, uploaded images) is permanently removed from our servers within 30 days
- Voice data is never retained — it is transmitted in real-time and discarded
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your data — view your profile, memberships, and activity within the App
- Correct your data — update your display name, email, or avatar at any time
- Delete your data — delete your account from the Profile screen in the App, or by contacting us
- Export your data — contact us at the email below to request an export
Children's Privacy
SquadChatter is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy on this page with a new "Last Updated" date. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance.
